Regarding the media coverage of “United Stated Department of Defense Announced the Sales of Refurbished Radars for Naval Ships and Boats to Taiwan That Are Worth About $50 Million USD”, the Navy Command Headquarters has stated today (9th) that the coverage is a misinterpretation, and has provided the following explanations:

1. This project is regarding the United States Navy project office utilizes warranted parts and attachment requirements according to various equipment, which is categorized as an administrative operation for project management on the USA side, and was not a procurement of equipment.

2. The command headquarters hereby clarifies that the Republic of China Armed Forces has followed the “Armed Forces Procurement Operation Regulations” and commissioned USA to implement the maintenance and technical support service on the AN/SPS-48E electronically scanned array air search radar of the Keelung-Class through a military procurement of approximately $5.7 million USD in order to maintain proper equipment, ensure combat capabilities of Navy, as well as protect coastal and territorial areas.
